It’s as if the sun finally got tired and the clouds, rain, thunder and lightning were abled to sneak in a little face time with Southern California residents throwing them all into a pure state of panic.

It was brilliant.

I need to think through this entire work a little further, but I suppose that I am most interested in understanding why I don’t maintain or appreciate my sleeping area/bed. Perhaps it is because I am satisfied with the fact that currently my sleeping area is the least used part of environment and this is a strange satisfaction. Am I living more than anyone else… certainly not at all. I just prefer to stand rather than lay in most instances.

I decided, rather foolishly, that I didn’t need to train for this because heck…I’ve run 5ks and 10ks for a long time now, what’s another couple of miles. Those extra couple of miles do make quite a big difference. It was quite a painful process but when I have now learned from. My knees are sore but that is all.

I had no problem with the pacing of the run, my legs simply got tired and felt like soggy wool socks that you can’t take off because then your feet will freeze. Not quite the analogy I wanted but that’s okay. I’ll try again some other time.

Update: I also won this really sweet medal and my legs don’t hurt nearly as much today… so I’ll probably run another half marathon sometime in the future after more training.

It has been just over a year since I came to California and it has been quite an adventure. I have lived on my own in the city and now I live up in North County by the ocean, with some friends just relaxing and going to the beach every few days. I still don’t really own any shorts but I have never found the need to own shorts other than running shorts and swim trunks. With that in mind though I have updated my wardrobe so that it is somewhat more California or maybe just more modern.

Work has been great. We have released a lot of new products and we still have a lot of big, interesting plans to keep working. We’ve been working a lot and we’re keeping busy with all of the new adventures ahead. I have even had the chance and pleasure of doing some traveling for work over the last year. I have made it to a few different parts of Florida, Vegas a few times, Germany once and of course NYC. I know I’ll get to do some more traveling in the upcoming year as well (more trade shows ahead). It will be quite a rush and an experience to keep all this going.

Otherwise I have still been taking photographs and working on some side projects. I’ve been slowly working on updating my website and soon I will unveil it (I was reminded again by the fact that the domain was going to expire next month).

I suppose that I will be hanging around here for sometime and just trying to keep this going.

Here is a Polaroid of my bed I took yesterday…

Sometimes I abuse you. I am not sorry. Sometimes I abuse you because I can, which is not an excuse but merely me reasoning with myself. I will only abuse you a little more. I will now abuse you by posting too much. I will try to post a self-portrait at least 3 times a week. This way you will be happy. You will have attention and you will like it. If you do not like it, we will not be friends.

PS - It starts now!

It’s always good to have some visitors, but if when they come in succession it can be quite tiresome. It’s also nice to enjoy a routine. Now I am almost into a routine that has the variance I enjoy. More on that to come later. Enjoy the pictures.

Dear Mr. Ford, Mr. Lucas, and Mr. Spielberg,

Thank you for loving me so much that you decided to make an additional final chapter to one of my childhood idols. While it was silly like a cyclone of Ju-Ju-Bees, I still appreciated the wonders of Dr. Jones’ final adventure (at least this time I really hope it was the final adventure).

While it has taken me quite some time to go and see this, it is not for a lack of trying. The first time it sold out as I was in line and the second time I had tickets and I even went into the theater but it was oversold and consequently no seats. So the third time was the charm (and only a month late!)

On a more serious note, if you went into that movie expecting some other than an over-the-top action movie a la National Treasure and The Rock, you will leave sore. This movie will crush your little heart with all of the dreams you had inside of it and then pick it up to show you.

This could be what you look like after seeing this film:

I was able to enjoy this because of a nice piece of advice just prior to going to it “Go as if you were six years old, like when you first saw your first Indiana Jones movie.”

Now, I was six when I first saw it because I am young and that was the most appropriate age for my father to introduce me to such a wonderful person as Dr. Jones, but I feel that using that mentality for this episode was completely appropriate. That may disappoint some older Indy fans, but realistically what could you expect?

In order for this saga to compete with the other nonsensical hoopla going on right now, it seems as if this was the only approach. Could they have tried for a more classic approach, sure. But what’s the point? This is a new time frame, a new era, and a chance to gain a new fan base. Making it more “classical” or “true” to the previous adventures would have only made it feel archaic and my question is, could they have actually pulled it off?

My guess is no. Simply put, the movie was fun if you go into it with the right mindset which can be applied to the majority of things.

So all my love to Mr. Ford, Mr. Lucas, and Mr. Spielberg for putting the last hoorah together. I enjoyed it for what it was, a good show and only a reference to what was a great trilogy with an additional ending.

Love,
Sean

I had a great time and hopefully I’ll get to see some of them again when I go back east for the 4th of July. I’ll be spending some time away in the woods on a lake trying to remember what green things look like. It shouldn’t be too hard but it will be short.

Then I don’t really plan on taking a vacation until the next project is complete and it will be a good vacation. I’m not sure what I’ll do, maybe I’ll drive around California or take the bus. Anyway, enough talk… more photos.

It seemed like a good time to do some cleansing. It seemed like a good time to start fresh and see which will grow faster, my hair or my mustache. I gave my mustache a head start since I knew it would be a tough-going but hopefully it will work out.

So I have been photographing over the past few months, mostly with my D300 and my Polaroid camera. I have learned that I am afraid of digital cameras. I am completely and utterly terrified of the process that they hold and use.

I suppose that the thing that scares me most about using a digital camera is the certainty that I feel it has. Digital photography seems to be even mroe certain or capturing than film. Film has an aura or mystique associated with it in the sense that it has to go through a chemical process that can vary in several steps. Even though most labs are very well maintained, there is also the very nature of making the print that seems to have more flux and variance than digital photography.

Digital photography has a more mechanical nature to it than traditional silver halide photography because of the very precise nature of sensor specifications, hardware specifications, images processing specifications created by software engineers and finally the very fine tuned nature of color managed printing with an inkjet printer. Perhaps this overwhelming control isn’t or shouldn’t really be an issue, but perhaps right now at this moment it is for me.

I think that the more I shoot with a digital camera maybe the more I will understand it as its own medium, but I have to remain steadfast in my belief that it is different than the traditional photographic practices. It has its place, its place is here and now, but it cannot overwrite or make us forget the past practices that got us to this point.

WIth that in mind, here are some photographs… I have made these with my digital SLR. What do you think? Can you sense my uncomfortableness with the digital camera? Also, this is the first portrait that I have shot and shown in over 3 years… is it anything?
