Book, Book, Book - Object, Structure, Concept

What has consumed most of my free time lately is books. Not so much reading them, although I have been busy doing that, but primarily thinking about books and how they relate to the work and photographs I make/create. I had a brief discussion with Margaret Le Jeune, a photographer, and we talked about how to present my work-my polaroids in particular.

From the discussion, we both seemed to agree that a traditional book layout would not really be suitable or most appropriate. Making a traditional book might make these polaroids seem less and less precious and more massive in perspective than if they were presented in another manner. Now books for me have generally taken a traditional look with a somewhat altered look, so I could continue to present them in a similar manner, and that may be part of this upcoming project I am working on but I feel that I should consider a more new, alternative approach to this project. I would like to start getting in touch with some of the small galleries in San Diego to see if I can bounce some of my ideas off of them for what I could achieve and possibly do with these polaroids. I feel that this will really help me focus on the bigger picture.

Things to read more about for books:

“The book is a holder of information and reference, of statistics and numbers, of music and arts, of ideas and philosophies, and of escapism and adventure.”

This is something I must remember as I move forward. It seems as if this is a key concept I need to recognize in my work from this point forward in a new manner.
